Lent: Day 6

Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people. (Deut. 9:6)

But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (Heb. 3:6)

But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. (John 2:21-22)

For this God is our God for ever and ever;
he will be our guide even to the end. (Psalm 48:14)

[NB: The verses here do not show it, but the sections from which the first three quotations come share the theme of God's anger/frustration toward God's people.]
