Another multi-ethnic experience
Gail and I went to Cafe Rumi this past weekend (thanks for the recommendation jmac!). As I was finishing up our delicious dinner of the dervish platter and kebabs I took in the setting. Let me describe it.
1) A middle eastern restaurant
2) sitting behind us a middle-aged Jewish couple (I saw the yarmulka)
3) who were sitting next to an older African-American couple
4) all of us being served by a red-headed, freckle-faced 20-something who looked more Irish than middle-eastern
5) and all the while playing on the sound system, Césaria Évora, a singer from the west African island country of Cape Verde who sings in Portuguese.
I recommend the food and the music!
