Paul Proctor, who do you think you are?

Paul Proctor is decribed thusly,

Paul Proctor, a rural resident of the Volunteer state and seasoned veteran of the country music industry, retired from showbiz in the late 1990's to dedicate himself to addressing important social issues from a distinctly biblical perspective. As a freelance writer and regular columnist for NewsWithViews.com, he extols the wisdom and truths of scripture through commentary and insight on cultural trends and current events. His articles appear regularly on a variety of news and opinion sites across the internet and in print.
I would rather describe him as something not appropriate for public viewing. What better way to take the Lord's name in vain than to post something as ridiculous as this, GOD SENDS SHOCKING MESSAGE TO EMERGING CHURCH! and do so as if he knew the mind of God on the matter. "Christians" like this make me sick and render those of us who would actually like to influence the world with the good news ineffective because they cast Christianity in such a light as to make it impossible to be taken seriously.

[Addendum: Pat Robertson, I thought I (and others I'm sure) asked you to Shut Up! Apparently you didn't get the request, or more probably you chose to ignore it.]

Wow. I really don't know how to comment on this. I myself tend to be a bit on the fringes of the Emerging Church movement, and while I must confess that a few of their practices leave me a bit uneasy (check this link for a bit of what I'm talking about), I can say with some conviction that they believe very much in following the Bible, and can be argued to have more respect for the traditions of the church than many "traditional" churches.

If you don't already check it out, I'd encourage you to check out Slacktivist, especially for his weekly (usually on Friday) "Left Behind" commentaries. In particular, it's striking just how much some Christians seem to find almost giddy joy in the death and suffering of those with whom they disagree. It's positively sickening.

chris, i'm with donna, i couldn't even finish the article. those types of comments anger me to the point i can hardly articulate anything. i just don't understand how someone can profess to know Christ and yet speak with such hatred. it saddens me. i can't imagine how much it hurts God. may the LORD help us to show those around us who He really is, so that the distinction is clear.
